Ackia, The Battle to save the Chickasaw Nation

The Northeast Mississippi Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Lee County Library, 219 North Madison, Tupelo, MS. The speaker will be Julian Prince, Sr., EdD of Tupelo, author of the historical novel, "Ackia, The Battle to save the Chickasaw Nation". The public is invited to this free program.

Dr. Prince will review and provide the historical details behind "Ackia" . He will elaborate on the events around the elaborate French plan to crush the Chickasaws and gain a free flow of Mississippi River traffic between its colonies. He will explain how the Ackia plan derailed with the battle Ogoula Tchetoka (increasingly pronounced as "Okla Chuh-TOKE-luh"). The northern French contingent attacked a Chickasaw peace village (in today's Tupelo metro) despite the southern army's delayed arrival, and suffered a disastrous defeat.
